The HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage builds on the HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy qualification and provides graduates with an even greater set of skills and knowledge to take their career to the next level. Included within the course is training in active rehabilitation, exercise prescription, trigger point therapy, injury management, functional and orthopaedic testing, as well as foundational elements like Swedish, Thai, and seated massage techniques plus thermotherapy, reflexology, and nutrition.

This massage therapy course is designed to be comprehensive and give students the greatest chance of success in their future massage therapy career.

Accredited Qualification

The HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage Online is a Nationally Accredited qualification. NetQ has different options for students to complete the final part of their study, to best suit individual needs. If you want to meet the current guidelines to be recognised by the majority of health funds to be eligible for private provider numbers, we have an option that will suit. If being able to offer health fund rebates is not a priority, and you would prefer the flexibility of minimal on-site course requirements, then we have an option that will still meet all the national training requirements. Clinical Practice: The majority of the course is delivered online, but it is also a requirement for students to complete supervised practical training. Students can attend one of our Primary Clinics (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast) or Secondary (Sydney & Melbourne), or complete some of their hours through our Virtual Clinic.

Subject Descriptions

Setting the scene for a career in the massage industry by covering communication, goal setting, the scope of practice, key terminology, client management and screening, business practices like record keeping, legal considerations, and OHS as well as safety and symptomology. Students also learn how to tailor their treatment to specific client needs such as those associated with older age, disability and pregnancy.

In this module, cells, tissue, and each of the 11 major body systems are covered including their integration and control. A key requirement of manual therapy is an in-depth knowledge of bone and muscle anatomy. Body landmarks are covered in detail as well as the origin, insertion, action and innervation of 63 major muscles which a therapist could expect to be treating. Nutrition and energy systems are also included.

A full body sequence, this module instructs students in the 140 different Swedish strokes to reduce stress, improve circulation, assist lymph function and enhance relaxation. Corporate seated massage techniques are also covered.

First aid is a critical component of all health industry training. This module runs students through First Aid response at the scene of an incident until emergency services arrive. This module includes life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other First Aid elements.

Get crucial insight into establishing, operation, and growing a massage business. In this module, you’ll learn best practice sales and marketing strategies, business and finance fundamentals, how to deliver customer service, as well as professional development plus leadership.

Passive and active stretching techniques are covered in this component. This enables graduates to provide home care as well as clinical for support for injury prevention to clients. Heat and ice (thermal therapies) are also covered.

Learn how to apply Thai Massage therapies with deep passive stretching and slow sustained compression. This is a process in which the client and therapist creating deep stretching to produce muscular release. Many clients find Thai Massage very uplifting and beneficial.

Based on traditional Eastern practices around holistic health, reflexology provides students with an introduction to alternative medicines. Reflexology can be used on its own or in combination with other massage techniques. This subject helps to give graduates of the Cert IV exposure to the broadest range of treatment options and equip them with the experience necessary to take on a range of future professional opportunities.

One of the most critical parts of the overall course – clinical practice provides students with the opportunity to plan, market and provide over 60 hours of massage treatment to the public. This is a core component to completing the Cert IV and making the first moves of their own career by building a client base.

Please note: Before you can graduate from this course you must first complete a current Senior First Aid course. First Aid (HLTAID003) is not available to complete online and must be completed via an on-campus program. This course is available to be completed at a Q Academy campus (Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast).

What You’ll Need

The majority of this course is completed through online learning so access to a good internet connection and a computer/tablet with camera and microphone access is essential.

It’s also recommended that you acquire a good massage table. Net Q recommends Athlegen or Firm ‘n’ Fold if you haven’t already got one. In any case, your trainer can assist you with more advice if needed.

Lastly, you’ll need to find some people to practice on! Friends and family are great if you’re just starting out and you can find other people by offering free massages as you gain more confidence.

Online Support

As the majority of the course is delivered online, NetQ has committed itself to provide the best learning environment possible. Content is presented in a digital manual, with classes presented by our experienced trainers via short videos to guide you every step of the way.

One-on-one sessions with a trainer and assessor via video are also used to help prepare you for any assessment tasks. These sessions provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, receive feedback and demonstrate their knowledge without ever leaving the house.
